Frederick Pinto, LLM
Fred is an experienced IP lawyer and author who has worked at the intersection of law and technology for almost twenty years. He holds honor degrees in civil and common law from the University of Ottawa, a master’s degree in Public International Law from Leiden University, and a graduate degree in Comparative Law from McGill University. He was an editor for the Leiden Journal of International Law, and has lectured at McGill University, where he was a Meredith Memorial scholar in IP law. His work has been featured in peer-reviewed journals and in several media outlets, including The Atlantic, The Harvard International Review, Entrepreneur.com, and Fox News. He’s been a speaker on law and technology issues for the Lord Reading Law Society, the International Economic Forum for the Americas, and in the context of continuing legal education across Canada and the US. In 2016, he was named to the Canadian Advisory Committee on the GDPR, which advises the Canadian Parliament on data protection and privacy issues. Over the course of his career, he’s helped founders build and sustainably grow their businesses, and negotiate long-term partnerships with several leading companies, including Microsoft, Costco, Facebook, Salesforce, Disney, Verizon, AT&T, Pixar, and Universal Music. He is also the host of The Fred Pinto Podcast, where he uncovers the insights and stories of leading innovators and thought leaders.
Jonathan Afilalo, MD, MSc
Jonathan is a cardiologist and researcher at the Jewish General Hospital, and a tenured associate professor at McGill University. He holds a graduate degree in epidemiology and biostatistics. His research program is focused on the use of artificial intelligence and deep learning to predict and prevent adverse events in older adults with heart disease. He’s published >160 original scientific articles in peer reviewed journals, and been an invited lecturer and visiting professor at top universities internationally. Jonathan works with collaborators and trainees from medicine, computer science, biomedical engineering, epidemiology, and now, law. His team has developed AI-powered software (coreslicer.com) and digital tools (frailtytool.com) to provide actionable insights for practitioners. These contributions have been recognized by awards from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canadian Cardiovascular Society, and American College of Cardiology. Jonathan is passionate about applying the methods developed in his medical research to novel applications such as the legal field.
